33. Planting More Apple Trees

As mentioned before we were successful in getting another orchard grant from the Forth Valley Link (and all the funders at the bottom of this page) which is amazing!  We decided to plant earlier this year in hopes to avoid the bad weather we encountered last February.Picture5

We were blessed with a very cold, but sunny morning for the planting. Ally lead an assembly at Blackridge Primary asking the students about their apple knowledge and telling them about the planting last spring.Picture1

We headed up to the Orchard and were soon greeted by keen planters from the P6 class. We showed them how to plant the fruit trees and then let them at it.Picture4Picture3Picture2

It was a really great time planting- we’re so thankful for the help from Blackridge Primary.

Beechbrae Orchard is now home to 30 different varieties of fruit (27 apples and 3 pear). Here’s a planting map with the different varieties and their rough colour!Orchard Map

The Forth Valley Orchard Initiative is funded by the Central Scotland Green Network Development Fund. The Central Scotland Green Network Orchard Grant Scheme 2013/2014, which is part of the initiative, covers the whole of the CSGN area.
